This year’s festival featured 57 dance artists, musicians, choreographers, videographers and performers from around the world. Curated by Edwina who has been artistic director of the festival for the past 6 years, this year’s events saw the largest participation with over 500 attending live and 11,000 audience members.
The feature event of the festival was the premiere of the Leitrim Dance Project Dance on Film creations. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Leitrim County Council & Dance Ireland, 5 commissioned dance artists documented their creative process through dance journals across a 6 month period concluding with in an individual film responding to the brief: The natural world, its rhythms and its movements, we’ve become so detached from them. Our ancestors didn’t have to think about nature as we do, as they were so engaged in it by the kinds of lives that they lived. But now we can cut ourselves off from almost all parts of nature. We have to make a conscious effort to turn and look at the natural world and think about our relationship with it.
