The Mummers’ Join celebrations in Mohill on a Sunday night in January 2023. In Spring we sowed the oat seed, in Autumn we harvested. In Winter we made costumes from the straw and at Christmas we headed out Mumming in our droves. Nothing new about the idea. Just looking back to what our ancestors did and giving their old customs new life in our communities once again.
Thanks to everyone that took part in the project all year from Leitrim and beyond. We’ll be starting all over again this Spring with the distribution of oat seed. Bígí Linn!

So excited to announce that The Mummers Join has been approved for funding for 2023 by The Heritage Council and Leitrim County Council. Huge thank you to Leitrim Heritage Officer Sarah Malone for her support.
This allows us to:
• Host sowing and harvesting days on Mount Allen Eco farm
• Straw hat making workshops throughout Leitrim in Autumn and in all Leitrim secondary schools
• A new programme for primary schools on How to Be A Mummer by Fionnuala Maxwell, Brian Mostyn & myself including new compositions of the mummers play, songs, dances, costume design, etc
• Heritage Week Straw celebrations
• Documentation and recording of The Mummers’ Play that we wrote last year
• The Mummers Parade
• The Mummers Join party
To kick start Spring sowing season and the launch of The Mummers’ Join 2023 we’ll have an oat sowing meitheal on Tommy Earley’s Mount Allen Eco Farm Sunday 16th April at 4pm to sow the seed together. Spread the word. All welcome! Seed will be provided thanks to CreativeIrl and Sowing The Seed – sister project to The Mummers Join. Visit www.sowingtheseeproject.com
